What we handle
- Uncontested divorce — where both parties agree on the terms, including asset division, support, and, where applicable, allocation of parental responsibilities
- Contested divorce — where issues are disputed and litigation is necessary
- Allocation of parental responsibilities — what Illinois used to call custody and visitation; includes both initial allocations and post-decree modifications
- Orders of protection — emergency, interim, and plenary orders; representation of petitioners and respondents
- Parentage actions — establishing or disestablishing legal parentage
- Child support and maintenance — both initial determinations and modifications
- Post-decree modifications — when circumstances have changed and an existing order needs to be updated
When to reach out urgently
- You or your children are in immediate danger from a family member or partner
- You've been served with divorce or custody papers and have a response deadline
- A hearing is scheduled in the next 30 days
- Your ex-partner is threatening to remove your children from Illinois
- An order of protection has been entered against you
If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline (1-877-863-6338). For emergency orders of protection, Cook County's Domestic Violence Courthouse (555 W. Harrison St.) hears petitions weekdays; we can help you prepare before you go, or represent you if you have not yet filed.
How pricing works for family law
Uncontested divorces are priced as flat fees. Contested matters and allocation cases are billed hourly against a retainer. Orders of protection have flat-fee pricing for the emergency petition and emergency hearing; plenary hearings are billed separately. See our full pricing page.
